Providing access to sailing for youth between the ages of 8-14, regardless of their ability to pay.
At Midcoast Sailing Center, we're passionate about inspiring the next generation of sailors. Our youth programs range from the free beginner-friendly Sail Kids For Free (SKFF) program, introducing kids to the fundamentals of sailing, to private lessons tailored for personalized growth. For more experienced young sailors, our afternoon Advanced Youth Sailing classes focus on refining skills and building confidence aboard a variety of different vessels. No matter their skill level, we offer opportunities for every child to discover the joy of being on the water. Check out our programs below!

SKFF: Sail Kids For Free
SKFF (Sail Kids For Free) is a week-long beginner sailing program designed to introduce 8-14 year-olds to the fundamentals of sailing aboard Optimus Prams - all at no cost. Young sailors will gain hands on experience rigging and line handling, docking, mastering sail handling while learning how to maneuver their vessel. They'll also practice essential safety techniques, including capsizing and righting boats with confidence. The program culminates in an exciting weekly regatta, where participants showcase their newfound skills in a friendly sail about the harbor. SKFF is the perfect way to inspire a lifelong love of sailing in a supportive and fun environment.

Afternoon Youth Sailing
MCSC offers two exciting afternoon programs for sailors who have mastered SKFF and are ready to advance their skills and explore the joy of sailing on a variety of boats. Both programs encourage growth, confidence and a deeper connection to the water while fostering a lifelong love of sailing.
Afternoon Youth Sailing
Perfect for young sailors looking to refine their technique, this program provides hands-on experience aboard our 420s, Sunfish, catboats and keelboats. Participants will build on foundational skills, learn more advanced sailing techniques, and develop confidence in a fun and supportive setting. 2025 AYS Schedule Session 1: July 14-July 18 Session 2: July 28-August 1 Session 3: August 11-August 15 COST: $200 AGES: 10-16 SCHEDULE: 1-4PM, Monday-Friday of each session week |
Private Lessons and Clinics
For a more personalized experience, our private lessons and small-group clinics are designed to cater to sailors of all skill levels, from beginners taking their first steps on the water to seasoned sailors looking to refine their technique. Private lessons offer tailored instruction to meet each sailor's unique goals and needs, ensuring personalized attention and steady progress. Participants will gain hands-on experience aboard a variety of vessels. Whether learning the basics of rigging and sail handling, mastering advanced maneuvers, or building confidence for competitive sailing, our lessons provide the skills and experience to grow as a sailor in a supportive and engaging environment.
